This is something I say a lot to my kids during a crisis. Because when they're feeling big emotions they must recognise what's happening before they can process and manage the feeling: when they understand what's happening they can get back in touch with their rational brain.
When I tell them, I do like this with my hand: it's like the crest of a crocodile (representing their reptilian brain) and they know what it means.
